Prologue

To You Who Love God:

Many have undertaken to draw up an account of the things that have been fulfilled among us, just as they were handed down to us by those who, from the very beginning, were eyewitnesses and servants of the Word. Since I myself have carefully investigated everything, it seemed good to me also to write an orderly account for you, so that you may thereby know the certainty of the things you have been taught.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh, and made his dwelling among us.

He was with God in the beginning, and through him all things were created. Nothing in all creation was made without him. He came into the world but, even though the world was made through him, it did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but most of his own did not receive him. Yet, to all those who did receive him and who believed in his identity, he gave the right to become children of God: children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.

In him was life, and that life was the light of men. For the Law of God was given through Moses, but grace and truth came to us through his only Son, Jesus Christ.

This is his gospel.
